What is Labiaplasty (Labia Rejuvenation)?

Women have various reasons for wanting to undergo vaginal rejuvenation. Vaginal rejuvenation comes in many different forms and one such procedure is labiaplasty. An enlarged labia can be caused by aging, childbirth, or any hormonal changes. Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure designed to reshape the labia (genital lips) and restore it supporting structures to a pre-pregnancy state, thereby improving its appearance and enhancing sexual function. This procedure is also designed to reduce pain and discomfort, both emotionally and physically, associated with having enlarged labia. During this procedure, excess tissue of the labia minora, or inner genital lips, are trimmed by removing the top layer while keeping the underlying tissue intact.

Labiaplasty is usually performed on an outpatient basis, with no overnight stay necessary. The incisions made during this procedure are well concealed and are usually barely visible.

Advantages of Vaginal Rejuvenation

Cosmetic Benefits After childbirth, the body doesn’t always go back to its pre-childbirth days, including the vaginal region. While vaginal rejuvenation surgery is mainly designed to tighten the inner lining of the vagina, cosmetic benefits will be seen in the overall appearance of the treated area. During vaginal rejuvenation, the procedure involves the removal of some of the vaginal lining and tissues. The loss of excess skin and tissue greatly improves the vaginal region, and can be combined with other similar vaginal reconstruction procedures for maximum cosmetic results.

Psychological and Physical Effects Vaginal rejuvenation is designed to primarily enhance a woman’s sexual gratification, as well as improve her partner’s sexual experience. Some women have experienced loss of sensation during and after childbearing. By tightening the vaginal muscles, they can experience better orgasms and sexual pleasure, just like their pre-pregnancy state.

Vaginal rejuvenation procedures are also meant to boost confidence by achieving a better quality of Life. Enhancing their appearance can greatly affect a person’s self esteem. Improving one’s femininity can also help them psychologically in going back to the real world with more confidence in their stride, whether in social interactions or career wise. Medical Conditions Some surgeons perform vaginal rejuvenation on patients to relieve or improve bladder problems. Similar vaginal surgeries can also be performed on patients with urinary incontinence, a medical condition where the patient experiences an involuntary leakage of urine. Another similar surgery can be done on patients with pelvic prolapse, where a woman’s vaginal walls or uterus are abnormally low in position. A vaginal rejuvenation procedure generally takes one to two hours, depending on the overall physical condition and the kinds of treatment required. It can be an outpatient procedure with minimum recovery period. Vaginal rejuvenation can be simpler and relatively safer compared to other cosmetic surgeries. However, it is still important to seek the best medical surgeon and treatment procedure that will match your individual body conditions.

Post-Vaginal Rejuvenation Lifestyle & Maintenance

Post Vaginal Rejuvenation: Immediate Measures

Immediately after the procedure, you might experience some pain or discomfort, or even some swelling. The doctor will prescribe pain medications for the following weeks to help ease the pain. In addition, antibiotics will also be prescribed after the procedure to avoid any possible infections.

You should be able to walk around and resume most of your daily activities a few days after the procedure. Several weeks are required to completely recover after the procedure. You will be able to see results in about 2 3 weeks. During the recovery period, you are advised not to strain yourself through heavy lifting or exercise. You are also advised to refrain from sexual intercourse during the recovery period. After the procedure, your doctor will prescribe light exercises which help increase blood flow to the vagina and support the healing process. These exercises can also help prevent the formation of scar tissue and speed up the recovery process. Avoid the use of tampons and douches during the recovery period.

Post Vaginal Rejuvenation: Long term Measures

Once you have recovered from the procedure, there are no specific measures that you need to undertake. The results of the procedure are permanent, and you can return to your normal activities once the recovery period is over.

In case you experience any side effects, such as fever or persistent bruising or pain, you should consult your physician immediately. It could be the signs of a complication and immediate medical attention will help contain it. Vaginal rejuvenation surgery conducted with laser has less risks associated with it than the traditional method. Some risks associated with the procedure include scarring, infections, hyposensation, hypersensation and excessive bleeding.
